If you’re like me and work from home, some days I’m working so much I forget to take a lunch and other days the munchies are in full force and I’m grabbing any snack I can find. Which led me to want to share my healthy snack ideas for the work from home girl boss!
One thing I’ve really tried to implement is having healthy snacks on hand that way I a) already have things prepped and it’s quick for me to grab something even if I’m busy and b) if I do get the munchies I know I’m eating healthier options.
So step with me into my kitchen as I share what I have on hand along with a few fun, yet tasty recipes that I have week after week!
What’s on Hand
I try to usually have these items — or at least some of them in the kitchen each week. This way, when I go for a snack I’m more likely to grab something more on the healthy side!
Apples
Bananas
Peanut Butter
Peppers
Carrots
Rice Cakes
Hummus
Yogurt
** Side note: I’ve been mostly dairy-free for years, but found a plant-based yogurt that tastes great and doesn’t upset my stomach — what a win! I’m hoping when I move back to the US they’ll have tasty options too!
Granola
Dark Chocolate
If I have an apple or banana I sometimes like to throw some peanut butter or almond butter with it. Additionally, I love hummus! My favorite way to have it is with peppers and carrots or throw it on top of rice cakes. It’s a great savory snack that I’ll have in place of chips — although I definitely still go for the bag of chips time to time. Balance, right?!
Also, I know chocolate isn’t necessarily healthy, but Roberto and I both love dark chocolate so it’s a staple in our home and on the grocery shopping list. Plus if I’m craving it, it’s always nice to know we have some!
Recipes I Love
Sundays I usually try to prep different things during the week. This is when I’ll usually make our “energy balls” for the week. I love making these because even just one will cure any sweet tooth and if you love Lara Bars, these are very similar! Also, throughout the week I love a good smoothie and this banana smoothie is SUPER easy with minimal ingredients. Plus, SUPER delicious!
Energy Balls Recipe
1 Pack of Dates
1/2 Bag of Unsalted Cashews (or Walnuts)
1/2 Bar of Dark Chocolate
You can totally add a dash of vanilla and some cocoa powder into these, but I pretty much just cut up and combine these three ingredients in mixing bowl, add a 1/4 tsp of water and form them into balls. I don’t really size things exactly every time either. I more so just keep the ratio consistent so that the dryness from the cashews and the chocolate doesn’t make it difficult to form the energy balls!
Smoothie Recipe
1 1/2 Bananas
1 cup of Oat Milk (or almond milk or milk of your choice!)
1 TBSP of Plain Yogurt (I use the dairy-free version!)
1/2 TBSP Peanut Butter
Dash of Cinnamon
If you’re like my hubby and need some extra sugar you can also throw in a sliver of dark chocolate (or chocolate of your choice)! I like to call it the Roberto speciality HA!
